Prayer: Being With God
Prayer is so much more than a religious thing we do to be a good Christian. It's a fundamental way in which we grow in our intimacy with the Triune God. In prayer we listen to God, not simply talking to God.
We've spent the last few weeks focusing on the practice of PRAYER. I hope you are coming to see that prayer is a powerful discipline when it comes to walking with Jesus. It was Jesus' go-to all throughout His ministry. He could do nothing without His Father, and He modeled that to His disciples.
First, they learned to recite what Jesus taught about prayer. Like a little child learning to see mommy or daddy, they were taught to come to God the same way. What they learned has become known as, the Lord's Prayer. (Luke 11)
Later, as they progressed in their growth, they longed for more. Jesus taught them about gratitude and lament and petition--to bring all that is in you to God. Again, like a child who eventually longs for a deeper connection to people than just one-word conversations, we too long for more of God and a deeper relationship.
This Sunday we'll explore the Biblical idea of being WITH God in prayer.
