SEEKING LOVE IN THE SAVIOR Wise Men: A journey which came from the heart

Dec 21, 2025    Canaan Chapman

Many of us will travel over the Christmas holiday. Whether it’s to the next holler, the other side of the mountain, or a journey that takes a plane, a train, and an automobile, it’s almost inevitable this season. I hope you’re not like me, but travel is only one of the many things that can make me anxious this time of year. Is it the schedule of events and family itineraries? Emotional stress tied to tough memories? The constant bombardment of consumerism? I find myself seeking peace this Christmas.

This holiday has a way of stirring up deep things within us. Whether it’s peace, meaning, hope, love, or something we can’t quite name, we long for something more. We’re continuing our Advent series, Seeking Jesus, where we step into the perspective of people in the Christmas story and learn from the way they sought Him. The ones we’re focusing on this weekend were looking for something too... and they followed it.

I’m reminded of the old Christmas hymn: “Coming from the Orient, traversing afar… westward leading, still proceeding… field and fountain, moor and mountain…” Quite a journey, not unlike the ones many of us will make in the coming weeks. I hope you’ll join us on Sunday as we reflect on this truth: not everything that shines can lead us home, but there is still a perfect Light worth following.
